In 2004, Alpha: Directions was heralded as “an ambitious album which represents but challenges human intellect, knowledge and experience.” This great work earned German comic artist and illustrator Jens Harder wide recognition in the comics circle. Alpha: Directions was the first in a comic trilogy on the creation of the Universe. It tells the process from the Big Bang to the extinction of dinosaurs in pictures. Harder portrays mankind’s understanding on humanity and the world in his own unique vision.
In 2015, Alpha: Directions was published in China. It reflects Jens Harder’s ambition and controlling force, and his profound comic content. Jens Harder is adept at creating comics on social science, literature and art. Due to his exploration of trials for comic themes, he has been rewarded many international prizes: the Max & Moritz Prize at the biennial International Comics Shows of Erlangen in 2004 and 2010, “Plauen Award” issued by City of Plauen and Association of Plauen in 2007 and the Audacity Award at the Angoulême International Comics Festival in 2010 and the Hans-Meid Prize in 2011.
